   Applying for Housing

Q: What will I have to pay each month if I am eventually provided with public
housing, or a Section 8 Certificate?

A: The federal law requires that 30% of your adjusted income must be paid
for your rent and utility expenses. There is a standard form that is used
to compute this amount. When you reach the top of the waiting list, you
will be called into the Public Housing office, and asked to provide us
with necessary information on your income and expenses.

From this information we will be able to tell you precisely how much you
will have to pay the PHA each month for rent, or what the PHA will pay
your private landlord each month under the Section 8 program.

Q: Do you have housing assistance within the city limits of Espanola?
A: No, the only housing assistance available is at the Ojo Caliente and Tierra
Amarilla housing developments.  Or if you are offered a Section 8 Housing Choice
Voucher you must find a Unit outside the city limits of Espanola.

Q: Are the funds received by the Housing Authority from the State or Federal government?
A: All funds received by the Housing Authority are Federal Funds.

Q:  Are Section 8 participants require to perform Community Service requirements?
A:  No this statuatory requirement only applies to residents living in Low Income Public
     Housing.
