Rio
Arriba has two public housing projects. One has 25 units, and the other has 28 units, they
are both designed for families. Those selected to live in the projects will have to pay
30% of their income for housing. The adults in the household will also have to perform 8
hours per month of community service, or be involved in an economic self-sufficiency
program.
The first development is known as Ojo Caliente and it is located approximately 26 miles
from Espanola, via U.S. Highway 285.
Students in this development attend schools operated by the Mesa Vista Consolidated
Schools, District 6. The development has the following number of units.
8 - One Bedroom Units
6 - Two Bedroom Units
9 - Three Bedroom Units
1 - Four Bedroom Unit
1 - Five Bedroom Unit
The other development is known as Tierra Amarilla, and it is located approximately 77
miles north of Espanola on U.S. Highway 84.

It is located in an
area close to many recreational activities. Students in this development attend schools
operated by the Chama Valley Independent Schools, District 19. The development has the
following units:
8 - One Bedroom Units
4 - Two Bedroom Units
13 - Three Bedroom Units
2 - Four Bedroom Unit
1 - Five Bedroom Unit
There is currently no waiting list for public housing units. So assignment to a unit will
take place after an applicant applies and completes an in-depth application, and is
determined to be qualified for a unit.
